The Coupe and Convertible 2 Series are based on a rear-wheel drive-platform, which means steering is accurate and gives a dynamic feel that you would ordinarily expect to find in sportier BMWs.
The rest of the 2 Series range has front-wheel drive, but BMW has worked hard on these models to make sure that they offer enjoyable driving. Some BMW 2 Series can be upgraded with BMW’s all-wheel drive system known as xDrive.
Cabin design will differ slightly depending on the 2 Series model you lease, with the recently introduced Gran Coupe offering the most modern infotainment system and a sharp digital dashboard display. The 2-door Coupe and Convertible, and the MPV Active/Gran Tourer versions offer a more traditional layout with dials and more physical buttons.
The Coupe and Convertible both offer seating for 4. The 4-door Gran Coupe is great for carrying passengers, thanks to its extra set of doors and increased rear legroom. The Gran Tourer seats up to 7 and offers the most cargo space of all the models – an impressive 1820 litres with both rear rows folded down. The Active Tourer offers space for 5 with 468 litres of luggage space with the rear seats in place.
The BMW 2 Series range offers a selection of petrol and diesel engines, as well as 1 plug-in hybrid option. The 224hp hybrid in the 225xe Active Tourer is the most efficient, achieving up to 176.6mpg and 33 miles of all-electric range. These numbers will only be attainable if you plug the BMW in to charge regularly, however. Elsewhere, the diesels range from 50mpg to slightly more than 60mpg, while most of the petrol engines hover around the 45mpg mark.
