The Citroen Berlingo is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a practical family car. The car’s boxy silhouette gives an indication of the space within, and it doesn’t disappoint once you’re inside.
With a choice of five or seven seats, there’s enough room for the entire family and their belongings. And with a range of modern and efficient engines on offer, the Berlingo is affordable to run too.
Practicality is what the Berlingo is all about. Being box-shaped, there’s plenty of room inside – even in its smallest 5-seat M guise.

Of course, boot space is very generous too – there’s 755 litres for the Berlingo M, increasing to 1,050 litres for the Berlingo XL (with the rear-most 2 seats removed). Carrying larger items? The XL offers 4,000 litres of room, with a 3-metre load length, once the seats are folded and the third row is removed.
There’s even an opening rear window on some models, which means you can drop smaller items into the boot and onto the height-adjustable parcel shelf without having to open the boot up completely.
With a selection of petrol and diesel engines, along with an electric version, the Citroen Berlingo offers low running costs. The turbocharged PureTech petrol and BlueHDi diesel engines incorporate the latest efficiency enhancements to save fuel, while still providing plenty of punch.
Official fuel economy for the PureTech petrol Berlingo is up to 51.1mpg, and the diesel BlueHDi records up to 65.4mpg on official economy tests. The electric E-Berlingo has a listed range of 174 miles, offering a greater capacity than the larger Citroen SpaceTourer MPV.
This 5-door, 5-seat MPV is available in a selection of engine types, including petrol, diesel and electric.

Based on the Citroen Berlingo Van, the passenger-carrying Berlingo has spawned a host of van-based rivals including the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life and Vauxhall Combo Life. Both are based on a small commercial vehicle and offer a similar shape and capacity to the Berlingo.
The Berlingo XL also faces in-house 7-seat competition from the car-based Grand C4 SpaceTourer, and the larger van-based SpaceTourer. There is also the C5 Aircross SUV.

The 5-seat Berlingo M can carry 755 litres of luggage with the rear seats in place. Fold them down and there’s 1,414 litres of room. With all passenger seats down, there’s a whopping 3,500 litres of capacity.

The E-Berlingo can travel up to 174 miles on a single charge according to official economy tests. The E-Berlingo Van has a very similar 170-mile range.
At rapid charging stations that charge up to 100kW, the E-Berlingo’s 50kWh battery can be topped up to 80% in 30 minutes. On a home wall box, a 0-100% refill will take 7.5 hours, or 15 hours if connected to a 3-pin socket.
