The Taigo is surprisingly practical, considering its coupe-inspired shape. Despite having a more slanted rear window, the Taigo has almost exactly the same amount of boot space as its sister car, the T-Cross. In all, the boot measures 440 litres, which is only a few litres less than you get in a T-Cross – and even the larger T-Roc. Fold the back seats down and the space swells further, leaving an almost flat boot floor.
In the cabin, the front seats offer plenty of adjustment and there’s ample headroom, so getting comfortable won’t be difficult. The back seats also have more than enough space for all but the tallest adults, with sufficient headroom and legroom despite the roofline. Children will have lots of space back there.
The VW Taigo is available with a choice of 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engines producing 95- or 110hp, and a 150hp 4-cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol engine. None of them burns too much petrol, but the most efficient options are the 1.0-litre engines, which are both capable of topping 50mpg when paired with a manual gearbox. The automatic options will still manage around 45mpg, while the 1.5-litre engine also returns around 45mpg.
In terms of emissions, the 1.0-litre engines can both go as low as 123g/km, which is good news for company car drivers.
The Volkswagen Taigo is only available as a 5-door, 5-seat coupe-SUV with a choice of efficient petrol engines.
